The December Stories are a series of first-hand accounts of the ONA community’s work on important causes and issues around the world. In 2017, we partnered with our longtime friends at 100cameras to more than double the scale of their storytelling educational programs around the world. Today, 100cameras co-founder Angela Popplewell shares an update on the past year and announces the 2018 ONA x 100cameras Snapshot Projects. (Feature photo: Scott Bennett)
I am overjoyed and expectant for all that is ahead for 100cameras in 2018! We have recently launched our Snapshot Project platform as an avenue to serve more kids worldwide with each new year. By packaging up our model, curriculum and tools, and the lessons we have learned from the field for close to a decade to now, we are planning to work with 20 new communities next year alone through equipping passionate creatives to empower kids and communities around the world that are close to their hearts.

It is quickly becoming a favorite highlight of my work to connect with leaders across four continents who will be spearheading Snapshot Projects across our world. From a seventeen year old leading some of her high school photography club members to travel and work with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh to a retired local doctor utilizing her love of photography to give kids a platform to process their stories in the midst of a confusing time in Venezuela to a Mom and her two teenage girls that just completed a trek to reach the Q'eros tribe in the mountains of Peru, I am convinced each Snapshot Project leader represents the most incredible threads that are found in humanity across our great earth. These examples represent just a few of our inspiring leaders and their stories, and we are excited to be introducing each to you over the next few weeks.
