ONA: Tell us about your role at ONA.
JW: As the Director of Sales and Customer Experience, I prospect and secure new retail partnerships while also maintaining our current partnerships with US retailers and international distributors. I also oversee our customer care team to make sure we’re offering the best possible service. I’ve been with ONA for a little over 2 years, making me the longest standing full-time employee. It’s been so much fun to grow with ONA and see the company flourish in such a short amount of time!
ONA: What led you to apply for your job at ONA?
JW: It’s a crazy story actually! When my husband and I decided to move to New York, I started thinking of companies I loved and would want to work for. The first one that came to mind was ONA because I had just received The Brooklyn bag for Christmas and assumed they were based out of New York because of the name. I didn’t see a jobs page on the website, so I took to Twitter to inquire and received a response saying that there were no openings at the moment. About an hour later I got a direct message from the ONA account and they had just opened a position! Turns out, it was perfect for my qualifications and I interviewed from there. Within two days of living in New York, I had the job – it couldn’t have been better timing!
ONA: What’s your favorite bag from the collection?
JW: I’m currently loving the Leather Capri tote in antique cognac – I wear it on a daily basis as my purse, and carry my camera with me on the weekends. My husband and I are constantly on the go and I’m always surprised at how much I can fit in it – it’s a travel necessity for me at this point and I find it to be the most comfortable shoulder bag that I own.
ONA: What do you usually carry in your ONA?
JW: Day to day I use it as a purse and laptop bag – you’ll find everything from my MacBook Pro to my favorite YSL lipstick in there. I never leave home without my Kindle or some other book to survive the Subway commute. When I’m using it to shoot, I carry my Canon 5D Mark II, a 35mm f/1.4 prime lens, and everyday essentials like sunglasses and my iPhone.
ONA: How do you spend your time outside of work?
JW: On any given day you’ll find me meeting a friend for a latte, biking around the city, or trying out a new restaurant. You can’t beat the New York food and cocktail scene! I travel quite a bit on the weekends and can often be found in the Washington, D.C. area visiting family or enjoying time out of the city in places like Newport, Rhode Island or Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Although I don’t shoot weddings anymore, I’m still a photographer at heart and love using my “real” camera to document life in New York and on weekend adventures. I’m also Instagram obsessed and find great pleasure in a well-styled, VSCO-edited ‘gram!
