Each ONA bag is named after a place that founder Tracy Foster has traveled, all the way from Camps Bay in South Africa (where she came up with the idea for ONA) to her favorite neighborhoods in New York, like Brooklyn and Chelsea. Alice Lee has always loved traveling, but last year when she traveled across Southern and East Africa, she realized it wasn't the traveling itself that she loved: it was the people she met, the relationships established, the conversations that made her short-term adventures less touristy and more purposeful. So she sought to capture that with her camera, somewhere between what people call travel photography and humanitarian photography. This led her to Gulu, Uganda, where she spent two months collecting stories of change and documenting what she calls "the micro-narrative of development." Alice believes photography, if executed well, can positively impact both the subject and the photographer, and that is what she strives for in every piece of her project: follow the process behind the project on her daily Instagram series.
